All F and M students that study in the United States need a Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.” Once accepted into a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)-certified school, international students will receive a Form I-20 from their designated school official (DSO).
How do I get an I20 form?
Once you are accepted into a SEVP-certified college or a university, you will receive your I-20 form from your designated school official (DSO). After your application has been approved by the SEVP-approved school, you will be registered in SEVIS and must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.

Can I print my I-20?
You may print the Form I-20 after you have electronically submitted the Form I-20 and after you have made updates to the Form I-20. Note: Printing a copy of the Form I-20 requires that Adobe Reader Version 5.0 or later be installed on your computer.

What happens if you lose your I-20 form?

Yes, due to COVID-19, DSOs may electronically send Forms I-20 to student email addresses listed in SEVIS. Schools do not need to request permission from SEVP or report their plans to electronically send Forms I-20 as part of their COVID-19 procedural changes.
Can I-20 be reissued?
The DSO can reprint a copy of the student’s Form I-20 for the following reasons: damaged, lost, stolen, travel, or updated. Only use the travel reprint reason, if there are no blank travel signature lines on page two of the Form I-20. The Reprint I-20 page opens.
Can you work with an I-20 visa?
Once you have the new Form I-20, you must file a Form I-765, “Application for Employment Authorization,” with USCIS within 30 days of receiving your recommendation. If USCIS approves you to work, they will send you a Form I-766, “Employment Authorization Document,” (EAD) with the dates that you may work off-campus.
Can F-1 students work during Covid 19?
Students can work remotely on OPT and STEM OPT. Students on STEM OPT do NOT need to submit a new I-983 form with remote work details. Students should keep accurate records of where they are working for their future reference. I am currently on OPT and cannot find work due to COVID-19.
How much does an I 20 visa cost?
The fee is currently $200 for F students and $180 for J students. The one-time fee only applies to new students who are receiving an “Initial” I-20 or “Begin a new program” DS-2019.
