What are degree shims?
These steel shims are designed to change your pinion or caster angle on a leaf spring suspended vehicle. These shims are 2″, 2.5”, or 3″ wide.
How thick is a 2 degree shim?
Note: 2 Degree – Shim thickness at tall end is . 435″ and . 268″ thick on the short end.
What does a leaf spring Shim do?
Steel shims to go between your leaf springs and your spring perch. These are used on leaf spring vehicles in order to adjust pinion angles and achieve proper drive line geometry.
How are leaf spring shims measured?
To find out what size shim you need, measure the length and width of the spring perch on the axle before ordering. Ordering a shim longer than required is not “better”, it will only make the shim thicker than needed and the extra shim length will likely just be bent over the end of the spring perch.
What are pinion shims used for?
Axle shims are thin pieces of metal that are placed between an axle and a leaf spring to adjust the pinion angle of the vehicle’s axle.
How thick is a 6 degree axle shim?
These shims are 2.5” wide, and work with 2.5” wide leaf spring packs.
What do pinion shims do?
Rear axle shims are small pieces of metal that are designed to slide in between a vehicle’s axle and its leaf springs in order to adjust a truck’s pinion angle. Typically, these shims come in one to six-degree increments and are sold in pairs.
Why are axle shims used?
In a four-wheel drive application, axle shims are often used to combat severe drive shaft angle stemming from excessive suspension lift. The use of axle shims can only remove a portion of the problem before the increased negative or upward angle begins to cause other problems within the suspension.
Can you shim a front axle?
The use of axle shims can only remove a portion of the problem before the increased negative or upward angle begins to cause other problems within the suspension. In the front axle, axle shims can severely alter caster and camber angles to the negative, creating a dangerously ill-handling vehicle.
Are there different degrees of a degree Shim?
Degree shims come in several different degree angles so you can get the proper correction for your particular need. If you are not sure how much correction you’ll need, give us a call and we’ll try to help you.
How big is a steel axle degree Shim?
Axle Shims. These steel shims are designed to change your pinion or caster angle on a leaf spring suspended vehicle. These shims are 2″, 2.5”, or 3″ wide. They are CNC machined from mild steel, Silver Zinc Plated and have a 5/16” center pin hole milled into them (3″ shims all have a 3/8″ center pin hole).
Are there any degree shims for cast iron?
Degree shims come in several different degree angles so you can get the proper correction for your particular need. If you are not sure how much correction you’ll need, give us a call and we’ll try to help you. Shims are available in Aluminum, Cast Iron, or Steel.
How do you determine the right size Shim?
Use the calculator below to determine the right size shims. The shim calculator figures out the current joint angle, takes into account how much the drive shaft slope changes as a result of the shim, and aims to achieve a 2-3 degree net joint angle. The calculator is only for double cardan rear drive shafts.
