What is the ARDMS exam?

ARDMS-certified sonography professionals meet rigorous criteria in both knowledge and expertise in Sonography. Applicants must meet prerequisites in education and clinical experience and pass ARDMS examinations, to earn one or more of the following credentials: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer® (RDMS®)

What exams are performed by a generalist sonographer?

Generalist Sonographers are qualified to perform ultrasound examinations of the abdomen, superficial structures, obstetrics, gynecological and lower extremity peripheral veins examinations. Cardiac Sonographers are qualified to perform anatomical and functional assessments of the heart and associated vessels.

How much does the ARDMS exam cost?

The SPI examination fee is $225 USD, which includes a $100 USD non-refundable processing fee. If you take an ARDMS examination at an international test center (outside the U.S., Canada and Mexico), you will be charged an additional non-refundable $50 USD fee when you schedule your examination.

When can you take ARDMS exam?

​​​Candidates must pass the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination and the corresponding specialty examination within five years, regardless of sequence. Candidates who do not complete both examinations within five years must retake the examination previously passed.

Is Ardms accepted in Canada?

While the ARDMS credential was widely recognized in Canada, it didn’t meet three important criteria valued in the Canadian health care system. It lacked a: Bilingual exam available to Canadians in both official languages. ARDMS examinations are not available in the French language.
