What languages are taught at the Defense Language Institute?
As of 2015, a number of languages are taught at the DLIFLC including Afrikaans in Washington, DC and the following in Monterey: Modern Standard Arabic, Arabic – Egyptian, Arabic – Levantine, Arabic – Iraqi, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Pashto, Persian, Portuguese.
How are languages assigned at DLI?
A: DLIFLC does not determine which service-members come to the institute or what language they will be assigned to study. Normally, students are given one of their top three choices of language. However, often the assigned language can depend on the needs of the Services.
